Events you should not miss this year if you are looking for a job or guidance
There are many ways of looking for work today; from sending out CVs, signing up to a website, such as LinkedIn or similar, or using Apps that direct job offers that match your professional profile to your mobile phone. However, job fairs, where businesses can find candidates for certain positions, or that provide employment guidance or promote entrepreneurial solutions, are becoming very attractive for young people, as evidenced by their growing success. Below is a list of some of the most important that will be held in Spain and Latin America in 2018.
–Salón MiEmpresa (13 and 14 February/Madrid): This event, which targets entrepreneurs, SMEs and self-employed people, is now in its ninth edition. It is a platform where you can announce your business, find synergies, learn about practical cases and promote business relations. In addition, there is a theoretical-practical part consisting of discussion panels, lectures, and workshops that take place as side events in ten rooms where more than 300 speakers cover a business’ life cycle.
–Tecnun Employment Forum (22 and 23 February/Pamplona): Seventy businesses attended the 2017 edition of this forum that seeks to find talent among students who are finishing their studies. Organised by Tecnum-Escuela de Ingenieros of the University of Navarra, it is a venue where businesses can make presentations, conduct interviews, and undertake recruitment procedures with a view to hiring people, identifying final degree projects, and offering work experience.
–Expojove (April/Girona): The purpose of this Training, Occupation, and Entrepreneurial Fair is to provide young people with guidance regarding their future training and jobs. Last year’s edition attracted almost 8,000 visitors among young people, parents, tutors and teachers, based on a programme that included 40 lectures and discussion panels on various subjects, in addition to stands belonging the entities and businesses.
–European Student and Employment Fair (8 and 9 March/Pamplona): Students, parents, teachers, career counsellors and unemployed people seeking additional training make up the groups targeted by this fair. 76 exhibitors from universities, vocational training centres and businesses provided young people with information on the educational options open to them, job opportunities, and entrepreneurial options.
–Fibest-University Employment Forum (14 March/Valladolid): The BEST association, in cooperation with the University of Valladolid, is organising a new edition, the nineteenth, of Fibest this year. In 2017, about thirty national and international businesses collected CVs and interviewed some students and new graduates. The programme also includes a number of side events, such as discussion panels, business breakfasts, and conferences.
–11Th Employment Fair for Disabled People /4th Employment Activation Forum (11 and 12 April/Madrid): For the second time, these two events aimed at facilitating job opportunities for disabled people and improving their skills to find jobs actively, will be taking place together. In 2017, almost 100 entities offered jobs and grants that attracted about 11,000 visitors. Lectures and discussion panels offered by professionals dedicated to labour intermediation, coaching, entrepreneurship and by experts offering specialised attention to vulnerable groups.
–JOBarcelona (17 and 18 April/Barcelona): Barcelona hosts one of the largest employment fairs held in Spain. The 4th International Congress of Employment and Professional Guidance for university students and junior graduates ended last year with 8,000 job opportunities, 21,000 candidates, and 104 businesses. In addition, almost 81,000 people attended the conferences, workshops, and one-to-one interviews. Figures that we hope to exceed at the next edition. A similar event, JOBMadrid, will be held in November in the capital of Spain.
–Unismad (April): This Virtual Internship and Employment Fair of the Universities of Madrid held its second edition in 2017, offering 1,200 scholarships, internships, and first job opportunities that attracted the interest of more than 12,000 young people. The 70 businesses that attended (employment agencies, multinational companies, and SMEs) were seeking a wide range of professional profiles, from delivery people and beauticians to agents, community managers, IT experts, or graphic designers.
–Expo Empleo Joven (May/Buenos Aires): About 200,000 young people aged 18 to 29 attended this fair in 2017. It was organised by the city council of the capital of Argentina, and 150 businesses offered 11,000 jobs. Beyond the job offers, Expo Empleo Joven, included meetings with business leaders, job guidance meetings, conferences, motivational talks, and advice in preparing CVs and job interviews.
–WORKinn (30 and 31 May/BEC Barakaldo): This Employment and Training Forum is being held on this occasion together with the Machine Tool Biennial and another three industrial fairs. This sector is organising an event aimed at professionals, who are either working and intend to change jobs or who are currently unemployed, as well as university and vocational training students who are finishing their studies. This forum also focuses on establishing businesses, training, and job guidance. Last year, more than 100 job offers were registered.
–Expo Empleos AIEP (August-November/Chile): This itinerant trade fair, the largest in Chile, organises more than twenty events throughout the country, offering jobs, professional experience, and specialised information on jobs, talks by experts, how to prepare CVs, and it also provides contacts. Valparaíso, Osorno, Santiago and Puete Alto are some of the towns that will be hosting this fair that processed 34,000 vacancies in 2016.
–Más peruanos con empleo (More Peruvians with jobs) (September-October/Lima): This virtual fair, in which thousands of young people placed their hopes of finding a job, attracted more than 2,500 job opportunities from 140 businesses last year. Banking, mining, health care, and telecommunications are some of the businesses found at an event that aims to help candidates find jobs and promote their desire to improve.
