It takes advantage of the United Nations Economic and Social Council Youth Forum to seek further support for the Pegasus Project
The leaders of the main youth organisations from all over the world that promote the participation of young people in key socio-economic areas have an important appointment at the end of January at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York. On 30 and 31 January, the 7th edition of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum helds, where the role of young people in building sustainable rural and urban communities will be discussed by government representatives, civil society agents, and the private sector.
The Novia Salcedo Foundation attends this event with the aim of sharing experiences and seeking allies for the Pegasus Project, the international campaign in favour of youth employment it has been promoting since 2013. This is the fourth consecutive year that the foundation will be travelling to New York to participate in a forum that serves as the mouthpiece for youth organisations in the fields of unemployment, poverty, climate change and inequality. Novia Salcedo’s presence is based on the acknowledgement it has received as a special consultative status entity with ECOSOC and, more recently, as a UN Department of Public Information Associated Organisation.
During the forum, there are plenary sessions, discussions, and panels that will deal with ways to help young people to implement some of the sustainable development goals that make up the 2030 Agenda. A rich exchange of ideas and experiences that will affect the work of youth organisations throughout the year. At the 2017 edition, the ECOSOC Youth Forum stressed the role that this segment of the population should play in eradicating poverty through the use of social media, among other tools.
